Game Recap

Playing the last regular season home match, the Mounties welcomed the Bulldogs of Burns HS to John Gamble Stadium. The match began with a bang as the host team jumped on the visitors early and often. Luke Rikard took a super pass from Chase yow and buried the ball in the back of the net off a corner kick. The six yard head ball gave the keeper no chance at stopping it with just one minute and 30 seconds having elapsed. Josh Scism then took a wonderful back up ball from Josue Molina less than a minute later and passed it around a diving keeper for a 2-0 advantage. Chase Yow then drove a twelve yard shot through a maze of Bulldog defenders for the third goal in the 12th minute again off a nice Molina pass. In the twentieth minute, Yow made it 4-0 as this time it was Nolan Raby that found himself with his back to the goal who found Yow 15 yards out for the shot. Rikard would score his second goal of the match at the 24th minuteas Molina won the end line and set the table for Rikard for the tap in on the back post. The final goal of the first half was scored by Will Robinson with four minutes left as he slid the ball inside the back post off a long throw-in from Brandon Quevedo-Johns. Richard Fernandez started in goal for the Mountaineers and helped to eventually shut out the visitors. John Harris IV and Hunter Champion also split time in goal to record the shut-out. Rikard would get his 3rd goal of the match seven minutes into the second period as Quevedo-Johns again got the assist off a launched throw-in. Robinson would get his second goal of the game off a super corner kick from Mason Nguyen. The final goal of the match was given to Dane Skeith as he threw the ball inside the six yard box and a Burns defender inadvertently headed the ball into his own goal. With this victory, the Mountaineers set a single season record for most victories. Last year’s team set the previous record at 17 from 15 wins and this team established the new record of 18 victories. Their last regular season match will be at Shelby on Wednesday with the JV at 5 followed by the Varsity at 6:30.
