Game Recap

The Mountaineers traveled across buffalo creek to play Shelby in SMAC soccer action Monday. After a hard fought scoreless first half the match opened up with both teams getting some good looks at each other’s goal. With eleven minutes left in regulation play the visitors struck first with a goal by Brandon Quevedo-Johns. He was set up by a super through pass by Luke Rikard off the left flank. The Mountaineers had almost no time to enjoy the lead as Shelby knotted the score just 10 seconds after they had scored. Although the Mounties gave an outstanding effort the host team would score two more times in the last 7 minutes to ice the game away. John Harris stepped in and started for the Mountaineers in goal for the injured Jarrett Ledford who was out after suffering a concussion in the football game last Friday. Harris made numerous quality saves and kept the visitors in the match until the last ten minutes. The Mountaineers will next play host to Draughn on Wednesday.
